The STR Group (STR), one of the UK’s leading  engineering and manufacturing recruiters, today announced news that it has partnered with Make UK, the voice of UK manufacturing. The partnership is a significant step forward for Make UK as it allows them to offer their members exclusive access to the STR Group’s priority service, with a preferred commercial arrangement. The news follows reports that over half of UK firms are still struggling to recruit following Brexit, Covid and the introduction of IR35.

STR operates internationally and consists of 6 specialist STEM recruitment brands covering Engineering and ManufacturingAutomation, Marine, Life Sciences, Infrastructure, the Built Environment and Architecture, as well as a Professional Services division recruiting for C-Suite and head office functions. For over 22-years, the group of over 140 specialist recruiters, the majority of whom are based in the UK, have been help shape the future of UK engineering and manufacturing by creating bespoke recruitment solutions to help UK manufacturers address their individual skills challenges.

Darren Day, Group Solutions Director at the STR Group, comments; “The partnership with Make UK, solidifies our dedication to manufacturers and our desire to empower them with the support and resources that they are lacking to find, attract, onboard and retain the talent that they need.

With more than two-thirds of manufacturers looking to a moderate or significant increase in permanent employment in their firms, but still reporting that 39% of skilled technical roles are hard to fill, part of STR’s mission is to help educate and enable the sector so that manufacturers can gain access to more innovative recruitment services in a cost effective manner. At the STR group, we specialise in providing consultative and tailorable solutions to address individual hiring and retention needs. Combine this with our 22 years of operating within the engineering and manufacturing sectors, means that the STR Group is the perfect recruitment partner for Make UK’s members”.

Richard Rumbelow, Membership Director at Make UK continues; “We are delighted to have the STR Group as our new recruitment partner due to their deep understanding of the manufacturing and engineering sectors. Manufacturers face huge challenges in attracting and retaining talent and the STR Group have some creative solutions that will help members of all sizes meet their skills challenges. They have a genuine empathy for and, willingness to help, the sector and we look forward to working with them.”

The demand for recruitment services has increased since the pandemic due to the recruitment industry shifting to be candidate driven, thanks to ‘the great reshuffle’, where employees are looking for more from their employers, their job roles and their lives. According to Office for National Statistics (ONS) data quoted in a recent LinkedIn report, the UK currently has its highest rates of people moving to new jobs and leaving old jobs for the last seven years,  leading to a staff shortage in many industries.
